What does it actually take to build a life around writing?
Anthony and Kaylah Cantu have spent more than a decade figuring that out.
In this episode of Aurora Airwaves, Jordan sits down with the married screenwriting duo behind Writers Spotlight to talk about their path from writing their first scripts to becoming working screenwriters in Los Angeles.
They share how they learned to write together, how their individual strengths shaped their process, and why writing more is one of the most important things you can do to become a better writer. Sometimes the script you write today is not the one that opens the door. It might be the fifth one, or you might return to an old idea years later with the skills to finally make it work.
Anthony and Kaylah also talk about finding their voice and learning not to change who they are just because someone in the industry doesn’t respond to their work. Instead, they focus on the movies they actually want to see and continue building a body of work that reflects who they are as writers.
That same philosophy eventually led them to create Writers Spotlight. After years of wishing there were better ways for screenwriters to find thoughtful feedback and connect with other writers, they decided to build it themselves.
This is a conversation about screenwriting, collaboration, rejection, community, and the years of work behind what can sometimes look like an overnight opportunity.
